派拉蒙本周发起了1080亿美元的收购要约，此前华纳兄弟刚宣布拟以827亿美元的价格将部分资产出售给网飞。
“哇，不得不说，如果我的公司有那么多钱，我相信他们绝对有实力复播一档王牌节目。”科尔伯特调侃道。
观众们高声欢呼，开始齐声呼喊科尔伯特的名字。
“人民知道。人民知道，”他说道，随后开玩笑提及《伸冤人》可能回归的消息。
此举显然是对哥伦比亚广播公司（CBS）决定在五月停播科尔伯特节目的嘲讽。该电视台在今夏的声明中称此举"纯粹出于财务考量"。但这一决定恰逢派拉蒙寻求特朗普政府批准其与天舞影业（现已完成合并）的交易期间，而特朗普曾多次要求封杀这位总统的尖锐批评者科尔伯特的节目。

The audience roared and began chanting Colberts name.
The people know. The people know, he said, before joking about the possible return of The Equalizer.
The moment was a clear jab at CBS decision to cancel Colberts show come May. The network claimed in its announcement this summer that it was purely a financial decision. But it came as Paramount sought approval from the Trump administration for its now-completed merger with Skydance and amid Trumps repeated calls for Colbert, a huge critic of the president, to be shut down.
